FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 30th 2025
Colorado Independent Drivers United Makes History as the First Official Driver Support Organization
In a First for the CO Gig Economy, Uber, Lyft, and Drivers Cooperative - Colorado Required to Notify All Colorado Drivers of Their Collective Voice on October 31st, 2025
DENVER, CO – October 30, 2025 – In an unprecedented milestone for the state’s gig economy, Colorado Independent Drivers United (CIDU) will serve as the officially certified Driver Support Organization (DSO). As mandated by the landmark Transportation Network Company Transparency Act (SB24-075), Uber, Lyft and Drivers Cooperative - Colorado are required to formally notify all drivers of CIDU’s status by Friday October 31st, marking a historic shift of power toward rideshare app-based workers.
This moment is the culmination of a multi-year grassroots campaign by drivers, for drivers. CIDU, formed organically by drivers facing zero transparency, unpredictable pay, arbitrary deactivation, and evolving from a coalition of drivers with support from Communications Workers of America Local 7777 (CWA-7777) into a powerful political force. Our advocacy was instrumental in securing the passage of SB24-075, and the establishment of the state’s first and only dedicated organization to educate drivers and support their often unfair account deactivations.
For years, rideshare companies like Lyft and Uber have communicated with drivers one-on-one, dictating unfair terms, and restricting transparency. On October 31st, rideshare drivers in Colorado will learn, directly from the apps themselves, that they have a collective voice in CIDU. This mandatory notification shatters that formerly one-sided power dynamic, creating a watershed moment for driver power.
“I believe that when we are together, we can move a mountain.”
-Abdi Buni, Driver and CIDU Organizer
The state's certification of CIDU as the DSO, and the subsequent mass notification provides an official means and channel to communicate with and organize the thousands of drivers across Colorado, creating a structured foundation for collective advocacy. Our work now begins in earnest: to educate thousands of drivers on their new rights, support drivers facing unfair and racist deactivations, and to build the collective power needed to negotiate for the pay we are entitled to and dignity on the job.
"This is not the finish line; it's the starting gate. The notification going out to tens of thousands of drivers on October 31st is our invitation to every driver to join us!”
-Anthony Scorzo, President CWA-7777
The future of the rideshare industry will be written by drivers, and we will continue to support and organize the thousands of rideshare drivers across the state. Drivers can schedule appointments by calling our intake line at 303-781-8701 or by emailing deactivate@cidu-cwa7777.org. We have opened our doors as the Colorado Independent Drivers United Driver Support Organization, at 3333 S Wadsworth Blvd D220, Lakewood, CO 80227 to drivers seeking support and to welcome new members to join us to continue to build durable worker power for a driver-centered rideshare industry.
