It’s Time to CONVERGE ON THE CAPITOL!!!

On February 20th at 11:30am, drivers from across the state will converge on the capitol to hold a press conference around our SB75 the Transportation Network Company (Rideshare) Transparency Bill. This bill will grant drivers and customers alike transparency in total amount paid and total amount taken by the companies. This is key to getting higher fare rates! The bill also will include deactivation protections. As many drivers know you can lose your livelihood by one false complaint, this is not acceptable and we must change our unstable working conditions. We need every driver who can make it to come down to the capitol and make their voices heard! 

When: Tuesday, February 20th at 11:30am

Where: Colorado State Capitol. 200 E Colfax Ave, Denver, Co. At the West Foyer of the 1st floor.

Not only are we holding a press conference but the 20th is an all day event!

On top of converging at the capitol for our press conference there will be two other events relating to our bill. We will be lobbying our elected representatives at 8:30am until the press conference begins. Lobbying is fun, easy and effective. Your elected officials need to hear from you about why transparency and deactivation protections are important to your ability to make a living and have a stable job. 

We will hold a quick training before we go lobbying from our partners at Siegel Public Affairs. When we go to lobby we will be in groups and visit both the House of Representatives and the Senate. 

After our press conference at 11:30am, our bill will go to its first hearing in the Senate. This means our bill will be discussed in a committee and the public will have the opportunity to testify in support or against the bill. It is important that drivers attend the hearing whether they testify or not to show the Senate committee that we mean business.

First Committee hearing of House Bill 1129 the “ Protections for Delivery Network Company Drivers”

Similar to SB75, HB1129 will provide transparency and deactivation guidelines for delivery drivers. Shockingly our corporate overlords at companies like DoorDash do not want us to see our tips until after delivery. This is a gross misuse of power and we must change this dynamic. The delivery companies are fighting extremely hard against this bill which was introduced by fellow delivery driver, CIDU union member and House Representative Stephanie Vigil. 

The hearing committee will take place on Thursday, February 22nd at 1:30pm at the capitol. We need as many drivers to testify on the bills behalf! Please email brianw.cwa@gmail.com with the subject line “delivery testimony” and I will provide you with further details and a calendar invitation.

Uber (Individual Assistance) Deactivation Clinic

On Wednesday, February 28th from 10am to 2pm, volunteer CIDU members will help those who have been deactivated on Uber potentially get back on the road. There is absolutely no guarantee we will be successful, which is why it is so important to pass our upcoming laws.
